Renewing God’s House together through Growing and Learning through Study: Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom …
I am a fairly long-time member of Salem. During all these years I have been blessed with many Growing and Learning opportunities. – And still do! Two major ones stand out:
For 8 years I was involved with the Confirmation program. At that time adult helpers (“catechists”) were required to have studied the entire 2-year program, which I completed in one full year. Serving up on the 3rd floor was a great learning opportunity that gave me the chance to teach our young members and see the growth in their faith. Many “God moments” were experienced both by the students and myself, especially in one-on-one conversations about certain subjects we were reviewing. I know I learned as much as our Confirmands did!
My second major opportunity involves the Salem Men’s study group – ‘Man to Man’. Facilitating this program for many years has greatly enhanced my learning. During our conversations I have mentioned to the guys that my knowledge and strength in my faith has continued to grow. It is a never-ending journey. Actually, this is an amazing process if you think about it. Compare it with secular schooling. We go to school, learn a lot and at a designated point, somewhere in your 20’s you are done! Congratulations, here is your diploma, cum laude. You know it all. No more studies…
So, here I am 66 years of age, still learning and growing every day. Needless to say, I don’t feel the difference from day to day, but definitely feel and see the results as the years pass. I firmly believe this process will continue until the day I die. I am not done, have not received my diploma yet… maybe Peter will pass it out at the Gate… maybe not…
One of the many exciting things about Renewing God’s House –called Salem- is the expansion of space, of areas and rooms to study, to share with fellow disciples, to increase opportunities for all, young and old. In a nutshell to Learn and Grow together.
Dear Heavenly Father, We come to you with many thanks! Thank You for the opportunity to update and expand our House together. Guide us, help and lead us during this exciting time. In your name we pray, Amen.
